Estonians are known to be a singing nation. Created for mixed choirs by composer Miina Härma, the song “Tuljak” is the most beloved choir songs in Estonia.
The author of the song took inspiration from Estonian folk songs. By tying together different folk song motifs, complementing them and adding new sound colours, a brilliant choral song was born to Ferdinand Karlson's words. Singers love “The Tuljak”, but not because of its simplicity. In the choral song, which is growing into an eight-voice jumble of male and female voices, its creator has been able to capture and harness the technical possibilities of mixed choir as a choir type. And not just. A song about the right Estonian wedding party creates the illusion of singers and listeners being present at this magnificent party at the same time.
